Sachsenring

Possibly the most technical track of the year, Sachsenring is deeply challenging, and a super viewing experience: a race that never fails to thrill. Also about the biggest event, it is almost entirely seated. We base in Chemnitz, and in case you don't get enough of that Saxon brew at the track, we have a great party in the local Ratskeller! Our surprise hit of 2007!

TRAVEL HINTS...

General Information
The Sachsenring circuit is located in Hohenstein-Ernstthal near Chemnitz in Saxony, eastern Germany.

By air
The circuit is approximately 95km from Dresden Airport and 150km from Leipzig/Halle Airport. Try skyscanner.net to find out what cheap airlines will get you there. Also consider flying in Berlin or Prague and then taking train.

By road
Via the A72 motorway, use exit Stollberg-NORD and follow the brown 'Sachsenring'-signs. Turn to the right at the next traffic lights and pass through Lugau all the way down into Oberlungwitz. There you come to a T-junction in the valley where you turn left. Go straight on at the next two traffic lights. At the third traffic lights (there is a VW dealer on the left) you turn right into the industrial estate, go straight on and turn right after passing the 'Reifen Walther' garage. After about 300 metres you will see a large green gate on the left - the entrance to the Sachsenring.

Via the A4 motorway, from Dresden in the East or Köln in the West, use exit Hohenstein-Ernstthal. Following the brown 'Sachsenring' signs, drive on the old Sachsenring towards Oberlungwitz.
WATCH OUT - right after the yellow 'Oberlungwitz' place-name sign there has been a radar trap in previous years, so slow down in time! Turn left at the next traffic lights (there is a VW dealer on the right), go straight on and turn right after the 'Reifen Walther' garage. After about 300 metres you will see a big green gate on the left - the entrance to Sachsenring.

From Dresden airport (around 95 km), follow the A4 motorway for approximately 90km towards Eisenach and Frankfurt/M. until you get to the exit Hohenstein-Ernstthal. Turn left and continue along the B180 trunk road, following the brown 'Sachsenring' signs, as above.

From Leipzig/Halle airport (around 150 km), follow the A14 towards Dresden. At motorway intersection Nossen switch over to the A4 motorway and drive towards Eisenach / Frankfurt/Main until you get to the exit Hohenstein-Ernstthal. Turn left and go along the B180 trunk road, following the 'Sachsenring' signs, as above.

By rail and bus
Deutsche Bahn provides domestic and local rail and bus services throughout Germany. From Dresden Airport the trip takes between 1 ½ and 2 hours, with a train and bus combination. From Leipzig/Halle Airport the journey takes up to 2 ¾ hours with 3 connection changes. Alternatively you could walk approximately 1.5km from the station to the circuit and cut out the bus connection.

See www.diebahn.de for detailed timetable, itinerary and pricing information (select “Internat. Guests” on the home page and search for connections to Hohenstein-Ernstthal). Also can see www.vlak.cz especially if coming via Prague.

Getting to your hotel
We always recommend a local map! Hotel an der Oper is very central; an easy walk from the train station. Take a short taxi to the Penta Hotel*. There is secure parking at the Penta Hotel, ask at the reception of the Oper for garage access.

* Penta Hotel Chemnitz was formerly Renaissance Chemnitz. Address remains the same
