Sepang MotoGP Test 2018
Storms early on Monday saw a slow start to the day with many teams taking the opportunity to make ergonomic adjustments to the bikes, lever/control positions etc. By midday the weather improved and riders were able to put in plenty of laps. Dani Pedrosa would top the time sheet for Day 1 with a 1:59.427.
Overnight rain meant the track was wet for the start of Day 2, once the track had dried the factory Honda and Yamaha teams, along with LCR Honda tested new fairing/aero options. The Yamaha option clearly working well with Vinales and Rossi finishing in first and second respectively, Vinales with a 1:59.355
Dry conditions on day 3 brought with it very hot temperatures, including track temperature of 56° Celsius. Most teams were focusing on 1 lap times and race pace rather than longer runs, as a result Jorge Lorenzo set a sizzling time of 1:58.830 and only one second covered the top 14 riders. Pol Espargaro would sit day three out after a crash the previous day.
Two riders that had consistent results were Jack Miller who finished all three days in 5th place and MM93 who finished 7th on all three days, Miller looking to be very comfortable on the Alma Ducati. PPT Sponsored riders Cal Crutchlow and Scott Redding had mixed results, Crutchlow finishing days 2 and 3 in 3rd place and Scott Redding ending the days in 21, 23 and 21
Of the rookies Takaaki Nakagami had the best results finishing days 1/2/3 in 12/21/14 followed by Morbidelli 18/17/17, Simeon 26/26/20 and Luthi 27/27/24
