Grande Premio De Portugal 2012: 06 May
Estoril used to be known as the 'sleeper' event of Europe. Well, in 2006 it woke up! Where to start with probably our favourite European destination? Great for families, too!
The 4.36 km circuit is one of the slowest overall yet has the fastest straight, second only to Mugello, topping a mind-blowing 340 kph (212 mph)! This final straight 'home run' comes out of the very fast final curve - always action here – and who will ever forget Tony Elias's brilliant slipstreaming of Rossi in 2006, trailing through this turn then slinging past him to win with just a couple of 1000ths of a second to spare! 2007 was no less thrilling with Rossi showing Casey just why he is still 'The Doctor'. In 2008 we saw rookie Jorge Lorenzo take his maiden MotoGP victory, and Dani getting past Rossi to really put the series into a 4-way battle. Jorge repeated his triumph in 2009, also the scene of Casey's 'comeback'. The 2009 250cc race saw a 'video' finish with Barbera and Di Meglio crossing the line in the same 1000th of a second! Estoril has some of the least expensive tickets in MotoGP; however the facilities are a bit spartan and all seats unnumbered. However for a song you get one of the best all-around viewing experiences in Grandstand E in the back corners for a great view on the unique uphill chicane. For the top experience, we recommend the VIP Village with pit lane walks, paddock tours and top hospitality! Saturday night we offer our very exclusive 'MotoGP Night' - dinner in the hospitality unit as a guest of a MotoGP team, taking in the magic of the MotoGP paddock! To really get a taste of the paddock, join us Thursday night for a unique evening in the paddock in our new 'MotoGP Insider's' night. Just in case you needed an excuse to come a day early to this brilliant spot! Now we turn to the destination. The Estoril coast is one of Europe's best kept secrets - long white beaches and the utterly charming fishing town of Cascais will mean you won't be in a hurry to leave! We love the place so much we can't pick just one hotel! • Our Classic package is set in a very nice 3* hotel right on the harbour with all amenities and very good value. • Our Superior package is based in a unique turn of the century harbourside Villa with individually crafted rooms. • For VIPs, our Deluxe package is in a sublime 5* seaside hotel. We kick off the weekend with a great opening party with special guest speakers from the paddock. We ensure you get to the track and back on Saturday and Sunday and if you really want some traditional Portugese culture, Sunday night we organise an optional dinner at a traditional Portugese restaurant, with local specialities, wine; then followed by a field trip to the local club where our customers and several riders met dawn... A perfect end to a perfect weekend! If you want to stay around a few extra days, ask us for advice on several brilliant destinations in the Sierra de Sintra. |
