Grand Prix De France 2008
Home to the famous 13.65km-long 24 Hours of Le Mans race which began in 1923 and is held on the Circuit de la Sarthe, the Bugatti Circuit takes riders along the old circuit for a fast right-hand 1st corner, through a left-right hairpin combination and under one of the symbols of Le Mans – the Bridgestone Tyres bridge – before leaving history behind and turning in on itself where the permanent 4.18km circuit takes over.
Most riders would agree that Le Mans is a real ‘stop and go’ track, with hard braking, tight corners and hard acceleration. While the teams and riders pit brain against brawn, preparing bikes that are firm under brakes and explosive out of the first-gear corners, fans are definitely the winners at this internationally renowned circuit – no matter who takes to the podium at the end of the weekend.
This was one of the pivotal events in 2007: with the rain threatening all weekend, the heavens broke about 1 lap into the MotoGP, turning the race into torrential chaos. The race that was going to put Rossi back on track ended up seeing Aussie Chris Vermeulen taking his and Suzuki's first victory in MotoGP. Colin Edwards had his first MotoGP pole but his tyres and the wet sent him backwards. But we saw the Union Jack flying for the first time on a podium in as long as we can remember as Bradley Smith took third, as the youngest Brit ever to achieve a GP podium! Well done that man!
Sitting in the dry VIP Village we were spared the worst of it, as were our customers in the covered Privilege Grandstand - our recommendation located right on the fast first right-hand corner. The VIP Village is especially good, offering service road tours in addition to the pit lane and paddock walks.
We love this event so much, we are offering a wide range of packages to share our enthusiasm with others. Based in Le Mans itself, we have our economical Classic package in a 2/3* hotel. However if you want to rub shoulders with VIPs and some riders, take up our Deluxe package in the top hotel in Le Mans for a truly special weekend. Both packages include track transfers on Sat and Sun, event merchandise and our guide on hand; and both include our gala opening reception at the Chateau.
The what?! Our star package for the weekend is one of our best at any event this year: We have taken over a Loire Valley Chateau to offer an incredibly good value for money DB&B package in a brilliant setting not far from the circuit, with transfers, meals, sampling of the local vintages; and our usual assistance in all matters. If you really want to be looked after, this is the option!
