Australian Grand Prix 2012: 28 October
Any serious MotoGP fan must make the pilgrimage to Phillip Island at least once... The Australian bike fans have so far to go to hit any other event, by the time the Australian Grand prix rolls around their appetites are so whetted that you can cut the atmosphere with a carving knife. The circuit is simply breathtaking -- definitely one that you want to take a stroll around, with the back curves (near Bass Strait and Siberia) competing with the spectacular ocean bluffs for your attention. There is action all over the track: it's a great viewing circuit. Expect a bit of rain (who will forget the 2006 traffic jam in the pits as the 'hot swap' rule was used for the first time?) grandstand and general admission customers may buy 'weather shelter' tickets just in case...
They have been racing bikes here since 1931, and the Aussies are certifiably mad about the sport! And of course their man Casey Stoner will no doubt be in contention for the championship so you can expect demand to be very high! Phillip Island itself is rather cool, and when they aren't running motorcycle races, is a great tourist destination. Add a day or two to check out the Koala bear preserve, the impossibly charming Penguin parade, or simply hit the beach.
We have a great package in the best accommodation around -- the lovely 4* Silverwater Resort and winery, just 2km from the Island. This is a 4 night dinner, bed and breakfast package with a completely full schedule to ensure you eek the most from the weekend! Suitable for VIPs (we have some lovely 1 bedroom suites) and ordinary grandstand packages. We have an opening welcome Thursday, with drinks and a hop into town for dinner. Friday we will have food, drink and a suitable special guest from the paddock. On Saturday there is a party hosted at the hotel, with very special guest Wayne Gardner (you can join at an additional cost). Sunday we do a winding down dinner and a sampling of the estate's local vintages... This is a true VIP package - with low numbers and one of our top experts to look after you (about 12 people per staff member!)
At the track we can provide ordinary grandstand or general admission tickets, but really sleep in a tent if you must and plunk down for the official VIP Village. This is on top of the pit roof in the Gold suites, and is VERY exclusive - free flowing food and drink, OPEN ACCESS to the paddock, and our expert guide around to make introductions and help with all matters. This is UNAVAILABLE elsewhere! Expect some special guests to drop in (last year amongst others we said hi to Mick, Chris, and our sponsored rider Brit Danny Webb) THIS WILL SELL OUT EARLY! (This is not the circuit Platinum VIP Village. The circuit hopsitality does not grant access to the paddock). We can also offer the Pit Roof Platinum VIP Village to those of you who love the perfect location and access to the south-facing viewing deck. This is in very limited supply.
This really is a 'dream weekend'.

Wayne Gardner, aka The Wollongong Whiz , was the 1987 500cc World Champion - the first Australian to win the premier class. He took his first ever win (in the Australian championship on a TZ250) just weeks after he started racing, and was the 1989 winner of the inaugural Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island. He was a teammate of Mick Doohan, who joined his Rothmans Honda team in 1989. He also won the Suzuka 8 hours 4 times; and was very successful in touring car and V8 supercar racing amongst others. |
