Event review - Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix 2023
Wow another weekend at the famous 'Island'!We based ourselves in the newly re-opened hotel the Sea Pavilions in Cowes. After a poolside 'happy hour' Thursday, a group of us headed into Cowes and manage to score a table in the uber-popular Pino's -- where we shared with a number of teams and riders. Friday was the best weather of the weekend and we had the opportunity to explore the track and meet riders. Friday evening we had a dinner at the lovely Ramada, and featured veteran Aussie MotoGP journalist Mark "Bracksy" Bracks and Scottish Moto2 rider Rory Skinner
With guests in the VIP Village platinum, the High Octane Club and as team guests, we were pretty busy over the weekend. With rain ominous, the organisers took the unusal step of swapping the Sprint for the main feature race on Saturday. Johan Zarco sensationally won his first ever MotoGP victory!
Sunday was ugly - we got some shortened Moto3 and Moto2 races, but with terrible weather, the postponed sprint was called off.
Maybe the highlight of the weekend however was our group dinner Sunday at the Mexican restaurant Sombreros. Great food & drink was topped by the surprise appearance by none other than the aforementioned Zarco! He was super friendly -- and needless to say super happy over his victory! A perfect conclusion to another weekend on 'The Island'
