Grand Prix of Qatar 2018

Qatar is the perfect season opener. The first night race in 2008 was spectacular, with the added benefit of being able to really pack in the weekend days with dune bashing, city touring, and some of the best shopping on the planet! Great track-side opening party with guest speakers; great hotels; VIP with paddock access! We've been here since it started in 2004!

Event review - Grand Prix of Qatar 2018

As every GP with Pole Position Travel, the weekend started with a Welcome drink at our hotel bar where we all met and our guests received their welcome bags with the program of the weekend. The Zouq Waqif is walking distance from our City Package hotel so we decided to go for dinner to our favorite Syrian restaurant in Doha.

On Friday we had an early start, we headed to the desert for a half day desert safari! A trip to Qatar wouldn’t be completed without this incredibly adventurous excursion! After the dune bashing throughout the Southern desert of Qatar, we stopped for a breath taking view of the Inland Sea, which is the natural border to Saudi Arabia giving us an opportunity to enjoy the serenity of the timeless desert. We finished the morning with an Arabic barbecue and some camel riding!

In the afternoon, our coach picked us up and we went to the Losail International Circuit to enjoy the Friday practises. As soon as the last practise finished we went back to the coach which took us to our opening reception. We enjoyed an amazing Arabic buffet and we were joined by our favourite journalist Manuel Pecino and moto3 rider Jakub Kornfeil.

On Saturday, we had a late morning, much needed after a full action packed Friday! We loved the late breakfast and some free time before going to the track to enjoy the Qualifying sessions! Zarco took the MotoGP pole position just as we took our French guests to see the action from the service road! Good timing!

Before his qualifying, moto2 rider Sam Lowes came to see us at the VIP Village, he was looking forward to the first race of the season and was feeling really strong unfortunately he crashed during the race. Qatar is one of the best GP to book VIP Village tickets, our clients experienced full access to the paddock and as many rides as they wanted in the official BMW around the service road!

On Saturday evening, once we were back from the circuit we decided to go for a walk and enjoy the beautiful Doha skyline from the Corniche at night.

On Sunday, we had a free morning but he headed ealier to the circuit to be there before the Moto3 warm up even started! As you may know, Gresini Racing Team was the first team we sponsored more than ten years ago so we were very happy when his rider, Jorge Martin, took the Moto3 race win! But we were very sorry to see another of our sponsored riders, John Mcphee, crashing in the last corner of the last lap.

Francesco Bagnaia took the win in Moto2, and Andrea Dovizioso won a MotoGP race that we will never forget! It wasn’t easy for Dovizioso, who withstood a last-corner pass by reigning MotoGP World Champion Marc Márquez. We had lots of South Africans amongts our guests in the VIP Village so we brought South African rider Steven Odendaal to meet them.

Sadly, the GP came to an end and we went back to the bar of our City Package hotel for a closing drink.
